Google Nest Hub 7” Smart Display with Google Assistant (2nd Gen) - Chalk

Items Description

The Google Nest Hub 7” Smart Display with Google Assistant (2nd Gen) - Chalk is a smart home display designed for households that want a central control point for compatible devices, entertainment, and daily routines. This second-generation model integrates a 7-inch LCD touchscreen with a full-range speaker, allowing it to function both as a visual hub and a capable audio device for music, video calls, and video streaming.

In the Chalk finish, the Nest Hub presents a soft, neutral tone that blends into a variety of interior styles, from modern kitchens to cozy living rooms. The fabric-wrapped base and compact footprint let it sit naturally on countertops, nightstands, or desks without dominating the space. Beyond its appearance, the device is built around Google Assistant, offering hands-free control for smart lights, thermostats, and other compatible products, while also supporting popular streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, and Disney+.

Key Advantages of the Google Nest Hub 7” Smart Display with Google Assistant (2nd Gen) - Chalk

1. Centralised Smart Home Control

The Nest Hub acts as a single touchpoint for managing compatible smart devices throughout the home. Instead of opening separate apps or using multiple voice assistants, users can group lights, plugs, cameras, and thermostats into one interface that responds to both touch and voice commands.

• Voice Commands: Google Assistant handles requests such as adjusting thermostats, dimming lights, or checking camera feeds.
• Touchscreen Interface: The 7-inch display provides visual controls for quick adjustments, room-by-room device grouping, and routine setup.
• Compatibility: Works with thousands of products that support Google Assistant, including major brands in lighting, climate, and security categories.
• Routines: Users can create custom automations, such as a morning sequence that turns on lights, reads the weather, and starts a news briefing.

2. Enhanced Audio for Media and Communication

This second-generation model upgrades the speaker system with a full-range driver, delivering clearer vocals and a more balanced sound profile than the original Nest Hub. The audio output supports both media playback and communication, making it a practical choice for video calls, podcasts, and streaming music.

• Full-Range Driver: A 1.7-inch (43.5 mm) driver provides improved clarity for music, dialogue, and Assistant responses.
• Streaming Services: Built-in support for Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, YouTube, YouTube TV, Apple Music, Spotify, and Google Play.
• Hands-Free Calling: Works with Google Duo for video and voice calls using voice commands or touch controls.
• Ambient Audio: The speaker delivers adequate room-filling sound for a device of this size, suited for casual listening and background music.

3. Visual Recipes, Step-by-Step Guidance, and Nightstand Utility

The touchscreen opens up practical, visual use cases that a voice-only speaker cannot support. In the kitchen, the Nest Hub displays video recipes with step-by-step instructions that pause when hands are busy or when the user steps away. In the bedroom, it functions as a smart alarm clock, showing time, weather, and calendar events at a glance.

• Recipe Mode: Video recipes from supported platforms display each step on screen, with voice control to move forward or backward.
• Sleep Sensing: The device includes Soli-based sleep sensing (where available) to track sleep duration and quality, providing a nightly summary.
• Photo Frame: In ambient mode, the display cycles through Google Photos albums when not in active use.
• Weather and Calendar: Morning routines can show the day's forecast, commute time, and upcoming appointments on the screen.

4. Quick Controls and Ambient Functionality

The Nest Hub is designed to be glanceable, meaning the display surface adapts to the user's needs throughout the day. The touchscreen responds to proximity, showing relevant controls when someone approaches, and adjusting brightness automatically to suit ambient lighting conditions.

• Proximity Sensor: The display highlights key controls as the user approaches, reducing the need to tap or speak.
• Adaptive Brightness: The screen brightness adjusts automatically, keeping it visible in bright daylight and dimmed gently at night.
• Gesture Controls: The device supports quick gestures for common actions such as pausing or dismissing timers.
• Multi-Room Capability: Works with other Google Nest and Chromecast-enabled speakers for synchronized audio playback across rooms.

5. Privacy-Focused Hardware

Google has included a physical privacy switch on this model that disconnects the microphone, stopping the Assistant from listening until the switch is toggled back on. This provides a straightforward, hardware-level option for users who want to ensure a meeting or private conversation is not captured by the device.

• Microphone Switch: A physical toggle on the rear of the device disables the microphone entirely.
• Assistant Controls: Users can review and delete voice activity history through the Google Home app.
• Camera-Free Design: Unlike some smart displays, the Nest Hub has no built-in camera, which suits bedrooms and private spaces.

The Google Nest Hub 7” Smart Display with Google Assistant (2nd Gen) - Chalk is best suited for households that want a practical smart home controller and a surface-level media display in one device. For managing connected devices, following recipes in the kitchen, or keeping a bedside screen with Assistant access, this model offers a straightforward, mounted solution without the complexity of a full tablet.
